In April 2017, I realized that I wanted to try to create a business where I could be my own boss, make at least what I was making now in corporate America and work less. I had no idea of what that would be or how I would do that. I have been in high tech and/or education sales for almost 30 years and I have my MBA so I thought the real test would be to take the knowledge I have gained and try to do something on my own. I wasn’t ready (or could afford) to quit my corporate 9 to 5 so it would have to be something I’d do at night and on weekends.
Let me add that I had 3 young kids ages 5, 7 & 10, we had just moved across the country twice in the last 3 years, and we were in a new town that none of us had ever lived in before, I was working a full time demanding job and my wife was extremely busy starting up her own company. I was exhausted and had no extra energy. I had a drive though to create change and and had tons of bottled up creativity from working a corporate job for so long and that creativity was dying to come out.
Little did I know I was embarking on a side hustle journey but at that point I hadn’t even heard the term side hustle. I’m writing this almost two years later and still am really just beginning this journey. In going through this process so far, I thought that others might enjoy and/or find value in what I have done and want to embark on a similar journey so I have created The Side Hustle Journey website and blog to share my progress, mistakes, tips and lessons learned.
I promise to be totally honest and transparent with my process and mistakes that I have made in hopes that others can learn something and skip some of my mistakes on their own journeys.
